Let's discuss tea parties. Okay! Here's a topic I enjoy talking about!
1. Do you invite people over for coffee or tea? I certainly have in the past, but this year has kind of put a damper on having people over for any kind of fellowship. Hopefully that will change in the New Year. However, I often have "virtual tea parties"...or a tea party for one (or is it three? me, myself, and I?) just for the fun of it.

2. Entertaining is a good way to serve others. The Bible encourages it in talking about how to be a good person:
Isaiah 58:6-7 "“Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter— when you see the naked, to clothe them, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood? "

Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter— when you see the naked, to clothe them, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood? "
4. Do you enjoy tea and/or coffee? How do you take it?I am a tea-totaller myself. I like hot tea or unsweet iced tea. Hot tea with a teaspoon of sugar (or honey) and lemon if available. Iced tea, unsweet with lemon and lots of ice. I also enjoy different flavors of teas/herbal teas, etc., but my normal everyday tea is Lipton black orange pekoe tea.
If it is in your power to entertain friends and family, do so often. People get lonely and need to be with others. You have more to offer than you know! Giving of your time and self is priceless.
I totally agree! The only thing that has held me back this year is this crazy "pandemic". People have not been as eager to visit in homes and I feel we have really lost something very precious and beautiful. My goal in the New Year is to get back into doing more entertaining, but probably on a smaller scale. I love having smaller more intimate tea parties with ladies...tea for two can be just as nice as tea for more. And if you prefer coffee, that's not problem at all! It doesn't have to be a formal tea party either...just a meeting of friends...sometimes to talk about personal issues, or perhaps a study of the Bible together...encouraging one another in our faith and daily living.

"And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching."Hebrews 10:24-25
Thank you for joining in this little visit today, as we talked about having tea parties. For more stories about tea parties and tea times you can click on the links on the right side column under the heading of "Some Special Topics".
Thank you to Annie from Cottage By The Sea for carrying on the tradition started by our dear blogging friend Toni Taddeo. You are welcome to join the party over at http://tuesdaysplace.blogspot.com/2020/11/tea-party.html to see what others have shared this week.
I hope this has inspired you to think about ways you can encourage others by opening your home for little friendly gatherings. It will make a difference in someone else's life when you include them in your life!
(Note: I apologize for the strange formatting and mixed up fonts in this post. Couldn't seem to make it right, but hopefully you can still read it and enjoy it!)

You have such beautiful teapots and teacups. I don't drink tea, but I have about 5 or 6 old teapots that I display in my dining room.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cathy. I think it is fun to collect teapots/teacups even if we don't drink tea. They are such beautiful reminders of a more genteel time in our society. I just love to look at their lovely designs. We need to enjoy the beauty around us!
DeleteLovely photos of good times. I think even when girls grow up they love to dress up and party even with the oldsters!! I know I always did.
ReplyDeleteYes, I guess they do, because I still do! I love having tea with older ladies as well as younger. It's just such a special time of sharing a bond of friendship with others that is so needed in today's society. We are far too isolated from one another. I'm thankful for our blogs to bring us together much like a tea party, but I long for the real life physical connections as well...the sights, lights, fragrances, and smiles and laughter ringing as we share our lives and hopes and dreams....
DeletePam, your tea parties look so fun and so simple. Enjoying a cup of tea (or coffee) with a friend is enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteLove and blessings!
It is fun to just bring out the special things and enjoy being together with a friend or two. Perhaps sharing tea with an elderly lady who is lonely, or a young lady who is lonely too...it can be such a rewarding time of blessing someone with some much needed attention...
DeleteThis is such an enjoyable post. I love your pretty Christmas decor, dolls, teapots, etc. the photos of your previous tea parties are lovely. Mother and I had a tea for her Sunday school class one time. Then shortly. Before her passing, we entertained six of my college girlfriends. Everyone designed and wore a hat and it was great fun.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to have done those lovely teas with your mother. I know those are very happy and special memories to treasure in your heart. I love the hat idea. The picture of the little girls at the table with hats on are all hats we "made" that day by gluing flowers and ribbon on inexpensive hats found at the Dollar General on sale at the end of the season for a $1.00 a piece or less. We had such fun making the hats together and then having our tea. I believe we ladies need to do more of this kind of thing. It is good for our spirits! Thank you for visiting, Mildred. Always a pleasure to chat with you.
DeleteThank you so much for sharing all your tea parties and tea party goods with us. I especially love the photo of the tea party with the kids, that is really special and something I bet they will never forget!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Martha. Yes, those little children were such darlings...very well behaved, and full of the joy of being a part of something so special. It really blessed my heart to be able to do that...I'll never forget it, that's for sure!
DeleteI guess i am a mixed up person. I 'need' my cup of coffee in the morning, I do enjoy a good cup of tea, but rarely make one for myself. I have one friend who always has tea, so when we get together , I drink tea. I used to have far more people in , but have become lax in that, and these past months, of course, it has not been possible at all.
ReplyDeleteI don't think you are mixed up at all! You just know how to enjoy whatever is offered and can fit right in. I think we have all become very lax in having people in our homes, and I've discovered that it is easy to let this pandemic be an excuse for me not to do things...and now I am getting anxious to get over that and get back to living again. People NEED people...it's too easy to allow ourselves to become hermits, but then we become sad and lonely...so my goal is to open up those closed doors and windows and let the sunshine in of enjoying people again. Yes, I know, we have to be careful...but I believe we can do it safely and reasonably. New goals for 2021...have more "tea/coffee parties"!! Have a blessed day and Merry Christmas!
DeleteYou are a tea expert, Pam!! And answered all the questions with such beautiful photos! I have been to your home and experienced your superb hospitality! Can't wait until we can entertain/be entertained again!
ReplyDeleteOh, I don't know about being an expert, Terri! I just know what I like and I like to share it with others! Oh, I would love so much to get together with you and Joe again sometime. I hope 2021 will be a year for people to start having real fellowship again in homes or wherever. I do enjoy going out to eat so I don't have to do all the work, but there's something special about being in a person's home that is so much more personal. It doesn't have to be formal...it needs to be simply wonderful and happy!! Have a blessed day my friend.
DeleteLovely! I especially like your angels collection. To be honest, I've not discovered a tea that I enjoy as much as coffee ... but the ritual looks mighty inviting. I used to get all worked up about entertaining more than two-three friends. Better I take a page from your key ingredient, sincerity.
ReplyDeleteYou can have just as much fun with coffee as tea...who says coffee can't be drunk from a teacup? And why not fill a teapot with coffee? Either way, it's the fellowship that is the key to having that "ritual that looks mighty inviting". People come to enjoy being with YOU, not to see how marvelous a cook or decorator you are. Keep it simple. Let them help you! My philosophy is we are all family here. And everyone is special, but when they offer to help out I never refuse their help...unless it is a very special situation where I just want to treat someone who needs to be treated...and that's wonderful too. Yes, sincerity is the key ingredient. I never thought of it that way...thank you for saying that! I like that.
DeleteI think most people don't care a thing about how perfect things are but just fun and fellowship. It took me a long time to learn that and it has to be learned even when you have a fancy home!
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree Sandy. I have found through the years of many gatherings in our home that people just wanted to be included and have a good time. If they were looking for formal dining they soon found out that it doesn't have to be formal to be good and very entertaining. We have so many happy memories of such parties where we played silly group games in our living room after dinner and laughed so hard people would think we were drunk, but these were church parties...no alcohol necessary to have fun...just the joy of the Lord and the fun of good fellowship with people who love one another. That's they way it should be.
DeleteAnd this is how we know the pandemic is not God's idea. It flies in the face if everything He has to say about hospitality and caring for each other. Yes, you must get the tea party kids before they get too old. What do you think the right age would be?
ReplyDeleteI am certain the pandemic is not from God...but it is what it is and now we must learn from it and move forward and not allow this to happen to us again. We've already lost too many wonderful people. And I agree that separating us was not good. I've tried to be careful but still we have continued meeting with friends as often as reasonable. Regarding kids and tea parties...that sweet little group I had over...the youngest (little boy) was 3! Next was 4, then 6, & 8. They were very good kids and treated everything with much respect and awe...a more delightful little group of children you could not find! Their parents and grandparents have taught them well. So, the age would depend upon how well disciplined the children are. But I have seen that little girls especially, around age 4 or 5 can certainly have a tea party within reason. Just keep it simple and safe, but fun. If you start them young, they will love it always! I never had a little girl to have tea parties with, so this opportunity was such a joy and blessing for me. I keep praying for a granddaughter, but don't see that happening in my lifetime...maybe a great granddaughter, but my grandson lives in Maine...so you'd have a better opportunity to have a tea party with my possible great-grandchild than I would! I'll let you know if that ever happens! LOL. Have a blessed day!
DeleteBeautiful photos! Do you collect teapot sets? I am more of a coffee drinker. =)
ReplyDeleteHi Jen! Welcome to "Closed Doors, Open Windows"! I hope you will visit again soon. Yes, I do have some collections of teapots and teacups. Nothing spectacular, but mostly gifts and/or things I have inherited from grandmothers, etc. I love each one for its uniqueness and history. However, I am limited in space and can't allow myself to collect anymore! I have never learned to drink coffee, but my husband does so we always have some "percolating" here if you want to pop in! Have a blessed day...and please come again!
DeleteGrin...I would loveeeeeeeeee to have a tea party or any party with you. smiles
ReplyDeleteOh, wouldn't that be a hoot? I would love that too! Let me know when you are coming and I will put the kettle on.
DeleteYour tes parties look like fun. Long may they continue!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Eileen! I hope we can get back to having them again soon. I am way overdue for a good old fashioned tea party!
DeleteOh, Pamela, I absolutely love your decorations.. We definitely do have a lot in common. I love how you incorporate scripture into your posts and the Byer Carolers are beautiful. I have a very few of them.. In fact, I havent run acros them in my decorations yet... I really need to reorganize my christmas decorations!
ReplyDeleteThank you Schotzy. I appreciate that you appreciate the scriptures in the posts...when I first started writing this blog that was the one thing I said I wanted to be able to do is share God's Word with others as that is where our hope lies. And we all need more hope in this day for certain. My carolers are little worse for wear. One poor little guy is missing his shoes and feet. He's had a very sad life I am afraid. But he's still standing and happy to be there with his friends. And their music disappeared long ago, so my son made them some new song sheets last year that just say "fa la la la la la la la la" LOL. Nothing too organized here...I just put out what makes me smile and hope that it makes others smile too! I am happy you have enjoyed this today with me! I hope you find your carolers. Listen carefully...they may be singing "Deck the Halls"...
DeleteNo doubt you have the sentiment right - it is the gathering, the slowing down and savoring one another's company than it is the tablescape or decor.....a relaxed and loving hostess makes the party - not the linens or crystal or silver or china. You, however provide the whole package! What a delight it would be to join you in your welcoming home for tea and a visit!
ReplyDeleteSo you once lived in Ohio- whereabouts, as I am from Ohio.
Are you related to Johnny Steiner from Marion, by chance?
Oh, Thank you so much, Michele, for your kind words and encouragement! I wish I could do more tea parties and such...but it seems the "older" I get the less energy I have to do as much as before...but perhaps smaller gatherings would be the way to go. As far as our living in Ohio, this was many years ago. However, we lived in several different locations as my husband was attending seminary in Ashland, and then he was called to Pastor a couple of different churches...one in Willoughby Hills, and one in Dayton. And as far as being related to Johnny Steiner...my husband's name is John Steiner, but we don't know any Steiner's in Marion. However, there are a lot of Steiner's in the Pandora area of Ohio that we discovered when we lived up there, but as far as we know we are not related to them. My husband's father/family came from New Jersey (and originally from Germany). Do you know this "Johnny Steiner" in Marion very well? It might be interesting to find out what "branch" of the family tree he is from. There are actually quite a few "John" Steiner's, we have discovered! Thank you again for writing. What part of Ohio are you from? I still have some family up there from my mother's side of the family as she grew up there too.
Deleteabsolutely beautiful!!!! thank you for stopping by, sorry for the delay I have been fighting bronchitis, hope your week was grand. love the tea party that you linked. I lost all of my old letters/photos ect in a fire :( those are priceless
ReplyDeleteOh, I am so sorry to hear you've been sick. That bronchitis is miserable. My mother in law (R.I.P.) used to say those "itis" brothers were a bad bunch...arthritis, bursitis, bronchitis, neuritis, whatever...stay away from them! Seriously, I hope you feel better soon. I am also sorry you lost your old letters/photos in a fire...that is something I've always feared and pray it doesn't happen, as those are items that can't be replaced. I truly am sorry for your loss...but what we can do is make new memories and start from wherever we are and create new for the next generation to enjoy. Thank you for visiting...I hope you'll come back again!
