Welcome to my "Open Window"...a place of hope, encouragement, and adventure as we journey down the road from "Closed Doors" to the new opportunities God places in our pathway. I hope you will take the time to go back and follow the trail of mixed blessings and fears, failures and triumphs from the past and side-trips in the present. Perhaps it will conjure up some of your own special memories, and be an invitation for you to share with others. I look forward to spending this time with you!
What Do You See Outside YOUR Open Window Today?
Remember: "When God closes a door, He always opens a window!" You never know what might be out there waiting for you!

Sunday Night Sunset, Geese and More
Zechariah 10:1 NIV
"Ask the Lord for rain in the springtime;
it is the Lord who sends the thunderstorms.
He gives showers of rain to all people,
and plants of the field to everyone."
This lone Canada goose was standing out on the "still very dry Still Waters Pond" this evening, just before sunset.
I thought he looked rather lonely and perplexed, wondering where all the water was that he remembered from all the years past...
It also seemed rather strange to me that he was alone out there on the pond. Canada Geese normally travel in pairs, as a couple.
This picture is to give you more perspective as to where he was standing out there in the very dry pond bed.
He started to honk, which is what they normally do when they are calling their mate and usually just before taking off in flight.
Oh! Look there! Sure enought...there is his mate, coming around from behind the bushes on the island! I knew he wouldn't be alone!!! And right after this they both took off in flight, honking all the way! I do hope they won't give up on our pond. I believe this is the same couple who have come here every year and have builts nests on that island most every year. It's been a very sad year for our water bird families. No new babies for any of them. I hope next spring will be much better...and I hope they will come back!
After the geese flew away I noticed that there was a beautiful sunset forming...so of course I had to go outside and watch. Wanna come along with me?
These really aren't in any order. I miss seeing the reflection of the sunsets in the water on the pond, but still the sunset itself is beautiful.
The sky has a lot of smoke in it because of all the wildfires burning throughout the region. Thankfully none are too close to us, but still we can smell the smoke.
Not sure what that bird is, but it was nice of him to fly over just as I was snapping this picture.
There he goes...
Wow...this is a close up of the skies...it almost looks stormy...but there's no rain in our forecast for over 10 days...
We really really need rain...please pray!
The air quality hasn't been too good, so I really haven't wanted to be outside too much...plus it's been VERY HOT!
Speaking of very hot... (yeah, these guys are "hot", lol! That's not what I was meaning), The boys were here this afternoon and I asked them to move this planter with the tomato plants in it to a different location because it was getting way too much bright hot sunshine in the afternoons, and I'm afraid that as the tomatoes develop they will be baked in the sun!
They are putting on a little show here, but it truly was extremely heavy to move because it's full of dirt. But being sweet sons, they did as Mom asked. I hope they won't have backaches or hernias tomorrow. LOL.
Speaking of today, I woke up this morning with a nosebleed. Not a severe one, but enough to get my attention. I also just plain didn't feel too good, so we decided it would be best to stay home . I actually went back to bed for a while because I hadn't slept very well. However, I knew that Scott was coming and I had already planned to have him cook some chicken on the grill, and by noon I was feeling better, so I asked Benton and Rose if they wanted to come on over for lunch since I had plenty of food anyway. And so they did. It's really no trouble to have them because everyone pitches in and helps with clean up, etc., and Scott did the hardest part of grilling the chicken. So it ended up being a lovely day. Thank you all also for your kind comments on my previous updated post about my father. Today marks 15 years since he passed away, and I just didn't want to let the day go by without remembering him.
Anyway, I was disappointed that I wasn't able to go to church this morning. I was looking forward to singing this song that we recorded at choir practice this past week. Here's the video of us singing, along with the Pastor's sermon for today, if you'd like to listen.
Well, that about wraps it up for tonight. It's been a long day and I'm ready to get back to bed.
Speaking of singing...did you know that God will "rejoice over you with singing"?...Here's one of my favorite verses...it's a good one to remember when you just feel like you need a little extra comfort and maybe a lullaby to help you sleep...
Zephaniah 3:17 NKJV
"The Lord your God in your midst,
The Mighty One, will save;
He will rejoice over you with gladness,
He will quiet you with His love,
He will rejoice over you with singing.”
Good Night! Sleep peacefully.
God is watching over you...and He rejoices over you and quiets you with His love...what could be more comforting than that?
Glad to know you are feeling better... hopefully you are not having sinus issues. I was sure hoping that the mate for the goose was around. We have had so much rain lately. Last time we had this much rain during the Spring months, we ended up with a very dry Summer. Nice that the guys could get your tomato planter moved. Sam's tomato plants have several blooms on them which means we might have a good live on them. Thank you ALWAYS for the scripture you share. Enjoy your week and I do pray you all get some rain soon.
I like that verse too and have it on a sign in our spare room. I'm glad you're feeling better and had such a nice day today. Your boys crack me up! :) I can tell I would like them if I met them in person. I think of you and your drought so often as it just keeps raining here. It really is crazy.
As singing has been so much a part of my life, this verse speaks volumes to me, Pamela. I hope and pray that you will feel better soon, dear friend. And yes, we are joining you in the drought department as of late. My Tuesday blog addresses this issue. Oh, dear Lord, send you life-giving rain!
Oh Dear ... I don't like hearing about all of the fires and the too dry Still Waters Pond. Praying for rain to bless your land. So sorry you had the icky stuff abut thankful you are better now. Kudos to your sons for moving the planter and grilling for you. Those tomatoes will be happier now. Hope there is an abundance of maters for you. hugs Sue
Thank you for sharing this — your post really touched me. That image of the goose standing there on the dry pond stayed with me… it says so much without words. I’m so sorry for the dryness you’re experiencing; it must be hard to see everything like that. I will keep you and your area in my prayers for rain.
I was also sorry to read that you didn’t feel well this morning. Do you get nosebleeds more often, or was this something unusual? I hope it was just a one-time thing and that you’re feeling stronger again now.
It sounds like, despite everything, there were still some very beautiful moments in your day... the time with your family, the sunset, and even that gentle reminder at the end that God rejoices over us with singing. That’s such a comforting thought.
Wishing you rest, strength, and a peaceful week ahead. 💛
The lone goose made me feel sad, so many animals need the water that isn't there. Prayers that God will send rain soon and replenish His world. Hope you're still feeling better, how's your blood pressure? Sometimes a nosebleed indicates pressure may be high. Sending prayers.
Hi Pamela. Lovely pictures in this post. I hope that you are feeling better today. I love those garden boxes and need to figure out where to get some in my area. They will be perfect in the little back yard of our new home. Have a great week! See you again soon! ~ Deb Jones in Utah
I sure hope you are completely better today Pamela. No more nosebleeds. I'm listening to your choir sing as I write this and you all did such a great job. I like that arrangement and have sung it before. "Sing a little louder." I think God likes that a lot! And I love the verse you posted. Dennis and I both had doctors appointments this morning. He had blood drawn for an appointment next Monday and I had several (40) spots removed at the dermatologist. A couple are a little sore but that's probably to be expected since the numbing stuff has worn off. So happy that the gooses mate was close by and I have been praying for rain for Stillwaters Pond and for help for the fires. The poor birds don't know what is going on with no water around for them. Your boys are so good to help their Mom and Dad. I'm glad we're in the condo and don't have that concern as we grow older. There's enough to take care of here. :-) Blessings and love, Betsy
Hope you are truly feeling better by now. I had nosebleed problems this past August - March. To make a long story short, I had a spot in each nostril cauterized (Sept and February) and I'm fine now. My blood pressure was not good, either, but that's much improved with a prescription med. While feeling fine these days, I've come to the realization at our age we need to be more careful with our bodies than what has been necessary in the past. Our spirits are strong but our flesh is weak, as scripture says.
I hope by the time you read this that you are feeling better. Oh, it must be nice having such sweet son's that love helping their Momma. I'm always grateful then I see loving children :)
Nosebleeds are frustrating and a bit scary. Hope it doesn't happen again!! Your pond looks so sad with no water. It's also sad that the birds don't have their usual nesting places. Rainy season is coming (I hope!). Your photos are always lovely and good for your boys helping with your tomato bed!! I need to get my plants planted soon! Thanks for the vitamin C advice. I see my doctor Wednesday and will ask. xo
Thank you for visiting here today. I would love for you to sign my guestbook and let me know you stopped by. I always enjoy reading your comments and words of encouragement! May you be blessed as you go on your way. Please come back and visit again soon.
