Happy Valentine's Day!

Good Morning, and Happy Valentine's Day from our house to yours!  Or should I say, from our cat to yours? LOL.

Are you doing anything special today?  I don't believe that we are doing anything out of the ordinary today. Yesterday was kind of busy, and tomorrow will also be busy...because hubby's birthday is on the 16th, which is Monday, but he has an important medical appointment that day, so no celebrations could be planned on his actual birthday.  Tomorrow the kids will be here after church and we will celebrate together.

But back to yesterday, we actually went and picked up his birthday present and brought it home...yes, he got a new recliner finally. Back when I was going through the process of getting a new recliner, we knew that he really needed one too, but had to wait a while. The kids all chipped in with me to purchase this new chair for his birthday...

I just realized that he had the arm of the chair flipped up, but that's because there is a compartment under the padded arm and also a control for a massager! So he was trying that out.  I have a feeling I may be using his chair once in a while too!

Here's his old recliner, out on the curb for now, because we've discovered in this neighborhood that usually if you put anything that looks remotely decent out on the curb, it will disappear pretty quickly. But if it isn't gone by today, our son will come and take it to the dump on Monday.  It's still functional, just pretty worn from years of use.

Anyway, back to the new chair...we soon discovered that we probably made  a mistake in buying one with that kind of upholstery...because we forgot that we have a kitty that just LOVES to climb up into "Daddy's" lap every morning after his breakfast and sit there where he feels warm and cozy and safe...but his little claws can too easily tear or scratch that kind of material, and so now our beautiful new chair is covered up with all manner of covers to protect it.  I am going to look for some kind of slip cover when we go shopping again that will be more suitable and look better than this, but for now that's what we had to do.   Amazing how a little black furry "stray cat" can change your whole routine and way of doing things...  Thankfully now that the weather is warmer, he spends more time outside, (which he loves) but he also loves this morning routine and secretly so does someone else, evn though he won't admit it. LOL.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 NIV

"4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy,
it does not boast, it is not proud.
5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking,
it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8  Love never fails..."

  1. Lovely chair---when you can see it....LOL
I took my good sofa and chairs upstairs to the sitting room up there. We don't have a cat but the two Cockapoos run and race and jump on the furniture. They both like to 'dig' on the cushions--like they are mining for gold. So, we have our old navy blue leather sectional from the rec room in our last house. It is functional and in decent shape but I would love to have my 'good' furniture down here. lol.

  2. All of my furniture have claw marks. It just goes with having cats. I have a sign that says "Cat hair. Don't care." I also need one that says "Claw marks. Also don't care." LOL Yes, we just learn to adjust to our pets and their needs. Happy Valentine's Day to you and yours. And happy birthday to John on Monday! xo

  3. I love the chair! And I remember when we had a cat in the house, having the same issue. Glad John is enjoying this wonderful gift.
It's our daughters birthday today, so I'm leaving soon to pick her up and do some shopping and lunch. Bob and I went out for a Valentines Supper last night.

  4. Our cats have never bothered our leather furniture but you never know! My husband has his recliner looking just like that because he makes a 'NEST' where ever he rests! lol

  5. Perfect picture of Blackie in the RED basket. Valentine picture for sure. I can tell that John is sure enjoying his new chair and I will say, it looks super comfortable. I had a friend who had her indoor cat declawed for reasons of messing up the furniture. I was sad for her cat that she did this...All cats, inside or out, need their claws and I often worried about the cat going outdoors. how could it protect itself. Anyways, that has been a LONG, LONG time ago. Wishing you both a very Happy Valentines Day Pamela.

  6. Th chair will be perfect and nice for both of you. I use blankets over all my stuff. Easy to wash. I try to remove if we have guests but sometimes they surprise me and that is ok too.

  8. Happy Valentine Day to both of you. the scripture is perfect! we don't have a cat, but we do have blankets, bed pillows on every piece of furniture for Beau. 41 years of that and we hardly notice. On the rare occasion someone visits, I pick them up and place in the spare bedroom. I don't even bother when the home health care people come, they just pick up the pillow/blanket and move it over and sit there stuff down.. we have leather, so the dogs claws don't matter, but their comfort does.. Beau loves the feel of the leather after it warms, but the dog hair has to be on something I can wash... the joy in Johns smile says it all, he cares not that he is in a nest, and he does like having Blackie in his lap. it shows.

  9. Love that new recliner of John's. I have always wanted leather furniture but at this stage of life its really not going to happen.
Happy Birthday to John also. Its fun to spread out the celebrations just as long as you can.
Happy Valentines to you too, Sweet Lady. Enjoy your day and keep on loving Blackie too.

    1. It's not really leather...just looks like it. It's a kind of polyester material that looks like leather. I wish now we'd stuck with a more "fuzzy" kind of material so I wouldn't be worried about it getting torn or scratched so easily, but this was the chair that felt the best to John when he sat down in it, and the price was right, so that's that. We will all adjust I am sure...we're still adjusting to even having a cat in the house at all...so this is all new to us. We do love him, but he is still a bit of a scamp...but I'm learning that he's really pretty much a typical cat. LOL.

  10. Man and his recliner! That is so important to most men, and justifiably so since they tend to spend a lot of time sitting there. Happy Birthday to John! And Happy Valentine's Day to both of you.

  11. Happy Valentine's Day. Hooray for the new recliner. We have no plans today. It is Gabby's birthday but we are going out to dinner tomorrow since today will be too busy everywhere. Enjoy your weekend.

  12. Good looking recliner ... and those fellas occupying it, too! Good thing we've no plans, on account Tom's still in a lot of pain. That's okay; we've not "celebrated" in years now. IMHO, birthdays are the most special; I hope his appointment goes well!

  13. What a great birthday gift! I got Chuck a recliner one year, he loved it! He's on his second one now, and I finally got one too. :) They sure are nice. Probably a good idea to protect the upholstery from Blackie. It's so sweet that they have a routine of hanging out together in the morning! Happy Valentine's Day!

  14. Happy Valentine's Day to you and Hubby! The new chair is wonderful and perfect for both Daddy and fur baby. What a sweet photo of the two of them. We have those arms that open up too and love them to hold our Bibles and other "important" items.
Praying for Monday to go very well for John.
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

  18. I just think to myself about the claw marks, “and this is why we can’t have nice things lol”!
We got arm covers for ours, and actually I have seen on Amazon nice quilted covers for this purpose.
