Bath Time
Hello! It is nice to have you back again for Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4.
Our hostess Annie says: "There is something lovely about a nice hot bath on a cold autumn night after a busy day isn't there?
Growing up our home had an old claw foot tub and I loved to fill it to the brim and sit there until my toes were like prunes."
Can we discuss the secrets of the bath?
1.Do you take baths or showers? Is there a reason you prefer one to the other?
Yes, I prefer showers. Why? Well, at my age, getting in and out of a bathtub can be very treacherous and dangerous to my health! I don't have one of those fancy bathtubs for senior citizens. But I do have a "garden" bathtub that sits unused and collecting dust. Why do they call it a "garden bathtub", I've often wondered. It's not something I would think of putting in the garden... but here it is all ready for our pretend bath tonight:
Yes, it is lovely, and I wish I could get in and out of it safely and sit there and soak. But another reason is we have to pay for our water here, and it takes a lot of water to fill this tub, plus it doesn't stay hot long enough so I have to keep adding more hot water to it. But it is tempting, seeing it all lit up with candles, and I have some delightful smelling lavender bubble bath just waiting to be used. It's a wonderful thought...but I still prefer to take a shower...much safer, hotter, and I can rinse off easier than in a tub. (Now if it was a jacuzzi tub with jets, I might be really tempted to get in. My aching joints and muscles could really appreciate a nice hot jacuzzi bath!)
2. Once a day shower or bath or do you have a different schedule?
I am a once a day shower person, and I prefer to shower at night before going to bed. I don't like the idea of going to bed dirty or hot and sweaty (we live in Florida), so night time has always been my preferred time to shower.
3. What is your favorite soap and shampoo?
My favorite soap is a lavender goats milk soap, which is home-made by a friend of ours, who lives in the town where we lived before moving here. We used to sell her soaps in Dixie Cottage when we owned the store (our kids owned it), but now I don't believe the new owner carries it, and we have to contact the soap maker lady privately and order it. Which reminds me, I am about out of it and need to get some more! I also prefer lavender scented liquid hand soaps, and will buy those wherever I can find them.
Shampoo: I use Pantene volume shampoo and conditioner.
4. Back in the day many loved Jean Nate spray after a bath. My mom enjoyed Avon's Skin so Soft.. what do you like in the way of skin creams, oils or sprays?
I prefer to use this Aveeno Daily moisturizing lotion on my face and body. It is fragrance free, which I prefer. I don't like strongly scented lotions or soaps as they give me a headache. Lavender is really about the only fragrance I can tolerate.
Here is a Lavender lotion and soap that I bought while on our trip to the mountains of Georgia. I have had this lotion before when Rose bought it for me, and I needed some more as I especially like to use it during the winter months on my hands. I haven't tried that soap yet, but it smells good...a mixture of evergreen and lavender is rather nice and kind of woodsy.
Rose and Benton had visited this place one time when they were traveling without us, and she especially wanted to go back there this time. And so we did...
They grow their own lavender there and make their own soaps and lotions and all kinds of lovely items.
This is their home too! They live AND work here!
They grow these lovely dahlias also! What beautiful flowers!
It was fun to see their little lavender farm!
And speaking of flowers:
I picked the rosebud from the Memorial Garden today. (Monday). It is starting to open up, and I was afraid something would mess it up outside like last time, so I picked it and brought it in and put it in my mother's pretty green vase. I've shared many times that this rosebush is in the memorial garden for our son Matthew, and that in the past it has frequently only bloomed around special days. However, it hasn't bloomed in the past year or more until now. This week is our daughter in law Nicole's 50th birthday. Nicole is Matthew's wife (widow). It should be opened up nicely for her special day. I will take a picture and send it to her on her birthday. I'm not sure how she will feel about that...she's not the sentimental type, but I think it's pretty special and I hope she will appreciate it. Oh, and it smells so sweet...a perfect rose scent!
Here it is this morning, Tuesday. And it still smells SO good!
I read this in a little devotional calendar yesterday, and so appropriate for these days:
Good thoughts for this time..."With God, ALL things are possible!"
Let us be praying for our nation at this all important time.

Good Night dear friends. I wrote this on Monday night...BUT NOW it is Tuesday morning as I am posting it! If you haven't already, please go out and VOTE!
I have never seen a bear except in a zoo, and certainly not in a little tub, adorable. the rose is beautiful, and oh so perfect and I had no idea roses grow from seeds, but I went out and checked and yes they do. imagine that.
ReplyDeletewe are watching hurricane Raphael with you and praying it will not come our way and will die down to a TS, although TS Gabrielle took down our largest tree and 3 smaller ones and ripped the facia off the front of the house.
Soaking in that tub would be wonderful . . . awwww♥ When we lived in Canada, long ago and far away, we lived a long way from civilization. Truth. For entertainment us kid would sit in the cars or our Dad's pickups at night and watch the black bears roam. We were in a construction camp built by the company where the families could live. Great adventures for sure. The rose is just beautiful, a great reminder of the beauty of our creator. I'm so tired of the storms, prayers that this one will subside and not be bad. {{sigh}}
ReplyDeleteWhat an adorable graphic -- and I love that capture of the real bear taking a bath! Gosh, the last time I remember sitting in a bathtub I nearly killed myself getting out. See, someone told me to squirt a little baby oil under the faucet for an all-over soft skin. What they didn't say, it makes the tub ridiculous slippery.
ReplyDeleteI'm so touched by that memorial rose, and sending its image to Nicole is so very thoughtful. I'm thinking Matthew is smiling and giving 'mom' a big thumbs up.
Thank you...I agree about the "thumbs up". Every time this rose bush blooms I know Matthew is smiling at me. That's why it's so special to me. Oh, that baby oil story is almost funny...but not. I know, I used some bath oil like that one time and had the same dangerous experience! LOL. Not a pretty sight!
DeleteI agree with you on the baths. They would be nice if I wasn’t scared of falling - then there is the backbreaking work of cleaning a bathtub. Now if they could just make a self- cleaning bathtub… hey a self cleaning toilet would be great too.
ReplyDeleteThat rose is so sweet and very sentimental. I’m glad you were able to save it. 🌹
I have to be careful with fragrance and lavender doesn’t bother me.
I voted the first day of early voting. First time. I have always voted on Election Day.

Hi Pamela! I prefer showers as well, and in fact, in our current home, we have showers in both bathrooms - no tub. Fine with me. Like you , I am to the point that falling getting in and out of the tub is a concern. You rose bud is so beautiful - glad you brought it inside to enjoy. That lavender farm looks like a nice place to visit. I also use Aveeno moisturizer every day. I hope that you were able to vote. We voted by mail the week before last. Now we wait. Have a good Tuesday. See you again soon!
ReplyDeleteYou could put a few houseplants in that tub and make it an indoor garden, then it would be a garden tub! 😊
ReplyDeleteOk, that bear in your yard in the kiddie pool is adorable! I would stay inside and far away from him, but awww he is so cute.
So much wonderful in this post. I used to love to take baths but now have the same issue you have. It's hard to get out. The last bath I took was a couple of years ago in Deal, UK. Alex, his wife, Dennis and I went to Dover and stayed in an oceanfront hotel in Deal. It was probably 200 years old and had all kinds of stairways and cubbies, but our room also had a seven foot long bathtub! I was so excited because tubs are usually so short here in the US. I took a long soak in that tub and it was oh, so good. But then I couldn't get out. Dennis had to come help me. Ha! That's it. No more baths for me. Mine is a daily shower.
ReplyDeleteLove the beautiful rose from your bush. I'm sure it's from Matthew smiling down on you. I can almost smell it from here.
There were several small lavender farms around Spokane that I truly loved to go visit. I bought several lavender plants there for our yard. I sure miss going out and running my hand lightly over the blooms and having the sent stay for hours. I'm like you and use a lot of lavender soaps and lotions.
We did early voting and I'm very relieved.
Blessings and hugs,
Betsy
Hi Pamela, your bathtub does look so inviting even to me a committed shower girl, lol. I agree with you on the unscented soaps and lotions. I can only handle lavender too. I love lavender and just put some essential oil on some sheets that I had taken out of storage to freshen them up a bit. For the skin, I only use lavender these days in the liquid hand soap but your hand soap looks so pretty.
ReplyDeleteIf I had that garden tub, I would be in it! I would get help for sure. But I have to keep my thumb dry and it's enough that I can shower with one hand! I grow roses so I think the one from your garden is so pretty and special too!
ReplyDeleteI loved your bear pictures when you lived in the forest!! Annie gave us another fun Tuesday 4. You always have lovely photos to share with us. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteThat bear picture is adorable! Everyone needs a bath. Loved your answers! Have a nice week. <3

I love it.

I am a shower gal too, and for the same reasons as other commenters. My boys sure loved the bathtub when they were little but bending over to wash them and to clean the tub was a "pain".
ReplyDeleteSorry to say that my nose can't tolerate the heady fragrance of lavender. I sure wish it would. My Mother in Law would make sachets from her lavender every year for Christmas. Beautiful but not for me.
The memorial rose is lovely and I think Nicole will appreciate the photo as a remembrance.

Oh my..that bear is funny. I wonder if they call them garden tubs becasue they resemble a pond that would be in a garden? Hmm.
ReplyDeleteWe have a too-large bathtub, and I don't feel safe climbing into it to dust it every 6 months, let alone try to get out of it wet and slippery. It's pretty, but IMO, it was a poor choice when the previous owners remodeled the master bath. I'd much prefer a walk-in closet in the space it takes up. Or even just a sitting space.
ReplyDeleteThat rose bloomed beautifully. I'm sure Nicole will be touched that you thought to send her a picture of it.
