Wednesday Treasures~Lazy, Hazy, Crazy Days of Summer

Happy Wednesday! Gee, this week sure is flying right by! Seems like summertime is always in a hurry to get over and done with, which for us here in the deep south where it is so hot and humid, that is probably a blessing! But I remember when I was a kid I wanted summer to last forever! Although I also remember that by the time August rolled around I was getting anxious to get back to school and see my friends again. Back then we didn't start back to school until after Labor Day usually, but nowadays it seems that they do start back to school early in August, so I guess their summertime really isn't all that long.

Who remembers this fun song by Nat King Cole?  "Those Lazy, Hazy, Crazy Days of Summer"?  Except for the beer, this would be a pretty accurate description of summertime back in the day... LOL. It just popped into my head while I was thinking about summertime. Now I can't get it out of my head. LOL.

So, switching gears, let's see what the "Photo A Day Challenge" is for today. Actually, I need to do the one for yesterday too, since I haven't done it yet!

Yesterday's photo (7th), was "Words"!  So, in looking around me right here at my desk, I found these words:

This cross-stictched picture is the original inspiration for my blog title:

And then there's this sign above the window above my desk, which my son Benton created for me back at our previous home:

And then there' this coaster on my desk:

Now we come to today's photo challenge, which is "Drink", and technically this photo could be for both yesterday and today, since there are words on my favorite morning mug of tea:

I am enjoying doing this little photo challenge that our friend  Chrissy T. over at One Season to the Next shared with us.  Perhaps you are joining in? It's not too late!

Now, on to something else that is pretty special!  IF you recall, I recently shared with you about the recent passing of my dear friend Maura and also her husband Woody. See this LINK.
Well, I may have mentioned that their granddaughter is now living in their home. Actually, they raised their granddaughter when her own parents had some serious health issues and they have both also passed away.  So "Katheryn" was really more like a daughter to them.   Anyway, recently I learned that Katheryn has become an author!  She has just published her first book and is working on another as we speak.  When I saw what she had written, of course I just had to have a copy, and when you see it, you will probably understand why:

Most of you know of my love for the Sand Hill Cranes that we have had living in our pond throughout the years.  Well, where Katheryn lives now in her grandparents' home, there is a lovely marsh, and there are  Sand Hill Cranes who also make their home there, so she has had a front row seat to watching the lives of the Sand Hill Crane family in her yard.  So this delightful  story about The Little Sandhill Crane is from her own experience of living right there and watching them!

This book is not only a wonderful story, it is written in such a way that it encourages parents and children to read together. The story is not only entertaining, but it is also very educational and makes learning to read fun!  I would highly recommend this book for all you grandparents out there (and great-grandparents) to have to share with your grandchildren when they come to visit!  It can be found on Amazon.com

I love that Katheryn dedicated the book to her grandparents!

Well, friends, thats all for today! Time to get a move on...Yeah, tell that to Blackie, who decided to join the tea party on the buffet!

Perhaps I should take a lesson from my friend Katheryn and write a book about Blackie!!! He certainly provides enough interesting stories! LOL.

Enjoy your "Lazy, Hazy, Crazy Days of Summer" while they last!

  1. Love your Lazy, Hazy Days of Summer post. The days sure fly by and school here in the Sacramento area begin in August. I can never wrap my brain around that time.
That Blackie has certainly made himself at home...
I'm going to look into that book. Gonna have our first Great Grandchild in November. This would be perfect and since my Granddaughter is a 1st grade teacher its a win/win.
Have a nice rest of the week.

  3. That song played so much on the radio that I got sick and tired of it back in the day! Maybe you really should write a little book about Blackie and how he came into yo ur life. That would be so nice.

  4. Hello friend!!! I love the photos from the challenge. You have so many great words surrounding you! I love that!!! Of course, I am smiling as I comment because I am giggling at King Blackie! He cracks me up! He has taken dominion for sure. HA! How neat that wrote a book and the dedication to her grandparents is so beautiful. I hope you have a great rest of your week and YES... summer is going by fast and slow for me at the same time. Like it seems slow due to my recovering but then I look at the calendar and I am like... what?! Already!

  5. I sure do remember that song, I've always liked it. Lots of great words for the photo-a-day challenge, and I love your mug. I think the book fits right in with living by Still Water Pond, it reminds me of the crane family that you shared with us a while back. I think stories about Blackie would make a great book.

  6. I do recall hearing that song back when I was a girl, Pamela, and now it's playing around in my head, too! What a sweet story Katherine has written and I do hope many families will enjoy reading it together. It would be great to tell Blackie's story, too. Have a wonderful day!

  7. I thoroughly enjoyed Nat King Cole singing, I haven't heard that song since I don't know when. Katheryn's book looks delightful, I miss your stories about the sandhill cranes, but Blackie makes a good substitute. And yes, please write a story about Blackie, he'll give you lots of material. I'm taking part in the photo challenge over on my photo blog, it's fun and I like a prompt, it makes me more intentional when looking for something to photograph and post. Have a lovely week and try to keep cool.

  8. Dear Pamela, I love all your photos, dear friend. Blackie is adorable! And I love Nat King Cole! This song reminds me when I was a little girl, my mother used to sing songs to me! Although she couldn't read music and never took voice lessons, she did have a talent for singing! My father, also had never studied music and couldn't read music, either, was a natural at playing the piano...by ear! Quite fun!
We never had a piano in my family but I was happy that my mother sang well and that my father played piano well! :)
The Little Sandhill Crane...you know, I am going to be 70 in October, and I still love children's books!!! I have a children's Bible...it is easy to read and has some beautiful illustrations. It is the only children's book I have, but I just love it!
Your mug is beautiful, Pamela! I love it! I also love your book "She is Clothed in Strength and Dignity".
Thank you so much for your post, I really appreciate the time you took to share this! I think it would be great if you were to write a book about Blackie!!! :)

  9. "Those Lazy, Hazy, Crazy Days of Summer...." Yes, I remember the song well. What a pleasant memory!

As for how long summer lasts for school children today, a school near us has a sign I saw just today saying the first day back will be August 10th!!! But then, the schools do take an autumn break for a week or so, and we didn't have that, back in the day!

  10. Hi Pamela, that book is so cool, and I thought of you as soon as I saw it. I remember reading to my kids and grandkids. I love to read and I am trying to make more time to read. How is your pond doing? Have you gotten more water? Hope you are staying cool!

  11. Oooh ya, I remember that song! I think my father used to put that on the turntable and reminisce. (Sometimes I'd wonder how those people used to be so cheerful with no central air conditioning. LOL)
That book sounds adorable; I love the graphic. Now, how about a children's reader, the many adventures of King Blackie!

  14. Oh yes, write a book about Blackie! If it is as beautiful as Katheryn's book...I'll translate it for you in Dutch. The children here would love to read it together with their parents.
