Welcome to my "Open Window"...a place of hope, encouragement, and adventure as we journey down the road from "Closed Doors" to the new opportunities God places in our pathway. I hope you will take the time to go back and follow the trail of mixed blessings and fears, failures and triumphs from the past and side-trips in the present. Perhaps it will conjure up some of your own special memories, and be an invitation for you to share with others. I look forward to spending this time with you!
What Do You See Outside YOUR Open Window Today?
Remember: "When God closes a door, He always opens a window!" You never know what might be out there waiting for you!

Monday Monday: First Monday of Summer!
This morning's Sunrise!
This old hymn came to my mind as I was enjoying this beautiful sunrise this morning...
When morning gilds the skies,
My heart awaking cries:
May Jesus Christ be praised!
Alike at work and prayer
To Jesus I repair:
May Jesus Christ be praised!
2
To Thee, my God above,
I cry with glowing love,
May Jesus Christ be praised!
The fairest graces spring
In hearts that ever sing,
May Jesus Christ be praised!
3
Does sadness fill my mind?
A solace here I find,
May Jesus Christ be praised!
Or fades my earthly bliss?
My comfort still is this,
May Jesus Christ be praised!
(I left out verses 4-5)
6
Be this, while life is mine,
My canticle divine,
May Jesus Christ be praised!
Be this th’ eternal song
Through all the ages long,
May Jesus Christ be praised!
You may not be able to see it in this picture, but there is a big Pileated Woodpecker sitting in this tree below:
Now you can see him!
Up, up, and away! There were actually two of them flying around, and maybe even another one in the trees back behind us as we took our morning walk Saturday morning. If you aren't familiar with this prehistoric looking huge woodpecker, you can read more HERE. It's always a thrill to see them.
I guess I am full of music in my mind this morning. Why? Well, this song above in particular...You see, yesterday morning, (Sunday, to be exact, Father's Day, and the first day of summer), when we got to church I was told that yet another of my dearest friends had just that morning "flown away" into heaven. My dear sweet Opal, our former pianist and choir member and very dear friend had left her earthly body, and she entered her eternal home on "God's celestial shore", and she, like that "bird from prison bars has flown"..."to a land where joy shall never end."...
and she had been recuperating so well from the past couple of years since she had a stroke and other complications. She'd been at home for the past few weeks and doing really well. We talked on the phone every week and she was making such good progress. But then, yesterday morning God called her home. Apparently a massive heart attack. It was time for her to "Fly Away"...we sang that song together as she played it on the piano for our church so many times in the past years...and finally it was her turn...like that big old woodpecker we saw flying away...Opal heard her Master's call, and she answered and flew away to glory.
Needless to say, I was a bit of a cry-baby in church yesterday morning. It was quite a shock for all of us, as we all loved Opal. But I can see her healthy and strong again, running through the fields of heaven, and also able to play and sing beautiful music once again. Oh, how I will miss her! But I am SO happy for her! Please remember her dear husband Larry and her daughter and family out in California in your prayers, as they mourn her loss.
I'm so glad I listened to the Lord prompting me to do something special for Opal on her birthday on May 1st. One thing I've learned in the past month regarding friends...listen to the voice of God when He prompts you to make that phone call, write that card, visit that person...we just never know when it will be the last time we will see that person or hear their voice.
So, after an emotional morning, we came home from church and the boys were here for lunch to celebrate Father's Day with us. Rose had to work, sadly, but we are going to meet up with her and Benton this morning and drive south to The Mason Jar to meet John's brother Billy and his wife Peggy for lunch, so I have to get a move on!!
We had grilled chicken thighs, scalloped potatoes, corn on the cob and tossed salad. It was wonderful. So happy our boys could be with us.
And Blackie says hello this morning from my desk...
He's looking out the window into the dark to see what's going on...
And he took over my desk chair...He's a rascal...but we love him.
And look at that rose! It came from the same bush as the other two...totally different! God's gift to us today.
Okay, I must run.
Hug your family. Call your friends. Visit the sick. Send cards to those you can't visit.
Life is short. None of us knows when it will be our turn to "Fly Away". Be ready to meet Jesus every day.
Oh no, about Opal's sudden passing! Unfortunately, this sort of news is becoming more and more commonplace among our little church community. You're absolutely right, reminding us to cherish one another in the living years. I'm so glad you were able to enjoy a sweet get together with your 'boys.' Wishing you safe travels this morning and a delicious lunch!
PS - I loved these videos; especially Joey and Rory.
Oh, dear, Pamela, you have certainly had your share of loss over the recent weeks and my heart aches for you once again as you miss your friend, Opal. We both know that she's flown away to heaven, but still we grieve because we can no longer be with them on earth. You are so right, my friend, that we need to follow God's nudges, especially when He is urging us to contact others and tell them we love them. Your photos are splendid as ever, too. Have a great trip and a fun lunch!
Hello dear Pamela. I haven't heard that first hymn for many years and I'll Fly Away is one of my favorites. And now your dear friend has flown home to the LORD. I'm so happy for her but I will pray for her family and for you. The older we get, it seems to happen more and more doesn't it? We have a sweet lady who goes to our church in Spokane who was put on hospice Saturday. She's in her early 40's, 42 I believe. Her husband, Ralph, has survived two bouts of brain cancer and they have one biological daughter who is 15. They have also adopted three foster children, sisters, who were all born drug addicted. They are the sweetest family and Dawn is such a blessed to so many. She went back to college 5 years ago and had just graduated with her teaching certificate when she was diagnosed with abdominal cancer. She has tried literally everything but is now in her final days. I don't know how her husband, Ralph will survive with three little girls under 5 and a teenager! Please pray for this family if you think of it. Sometimes it's hard to understand God's plans but we do know that they are for the best for all who love Him. And Ralph and Dawn DO love Him. I hope your lunch today was wonderful and you had great safety as you traveled. Blessings and hugs, Betsy
(((hugs))) my Dear Pam. I'm so sorry for the loss of your friend Opel. It was so wonderful that you followed the Lord's promptings and went to visit her and do such special things. I met someone who had been through so much trauma in her life that she was skittish of meeting new people and really doesn't trust anyone fully. The Lord prompted me to give her a big Grandma type hug and she enveloped herself in my arms and accepted it. It was a major breakthrough. Sue
I am so sorry for the loss of your dear friend Opal, and yes I sure do remember seeing her on the blog. Sad time and may happy memories be a comfort. " I'll fly Away " is my favorite as well as " Victory in Jesus ". ( so many others too! 😆). Enjoy the Mason Jar, have a good time!! 💙 💜 HUGS

I am sorry to hear of your friends passing. It's never easy even though we know they are safe and well cared for in God's hands. Lovely roses!! I am glad your boys got home to celebrate with you and also glad that Blackie is on the look out in the dark as well as keeping your seat warm for you. What a great little helper. I hope you have a good day today. Sending h ugs for your tears.
Pamela, I am so sorry for the loss of another dear friend! I remember that post you shared about her birthday. Prayers of Comfort for you and her family! I want to add thank you for sharing the hymns. I actually got saved when I’ll Fly Away was being played. I know It seems a different song to maybe be prompted to give my life back to Christ but it forever holds a special place in my heart.
The roses are just beautiful. Kinda makes me miss mine. I lost a dear sweet friend / mentor. I know she is so happy to have arrived HOME, but it has made me quite sad this week. We are no longer in drought mode over here. Goodness, it has rained so much and it is so heavy and humid. I wish I could have shared some of the rain with you.
Greetings Pamela, and Happy summer. Although summer really has been around for quite a while. It's always so nice and warms my heart to see Mr. Blackie, taking over the house. So cute. Oh, it's so hard when we lose our earthly friendships - we miss them so. I remember you mentioning Opal. Praise God, she is with her Savior and King.
Those are some beautiful photos of the sunrise! I'm so sorry about Opal's passing, but I love the imagery you described. My grandmother I was pretty close with past last year and I like to imagine that she's back to full strength and doing all of the things she loves with my grandfather, who passed several years prior. Thanks so much for sharing!
Dear Pamela, I am so sorry for your loss. Your photos are beautiful and captivating. Please give Blackie a hug 🫂 for me, dear friend. Sending you much love ❤️ and hugs.
Thank you for visiting here today. I would love for you to sign my guestbook and let me know you stopped by. I always enjoy reading your comments and words of encouragement! May you be blessed as you go on your way. Please come back and visit again soon.
