Happy Thursday! There's nothing in particular on my mind, but as Thursday seems to be the day to think about being thankful, perhaps that's what I need to do!
Here's the current weather report...91 degrees and do you see what I see? Thunderstorms are expected around 9:00 p.m. today! Although we have found this phone weather app to oftetimes be less than accurate, we are going to pray and claim by faith that this is true! Also, it is predicting rain for the next 3 days and then again several days next week! SO, if this is accurate, we will be doing some happy rain dances!! Please pray with us that it is true! We need the rain SO badly. It is SO hot and dry right now. The one thing I am very thankful for is our air conditioning. After we had been outside a little bit this morning, as soon as we stepped back into the cool comfortable house, I said, "Thank You, Lord, for our AC!" I don't take it for granted as they can be temperamental things, especially when you need it most, so I thank the Lord for it regularly.

I am thankful that even though our Still Waters Pond is still totally dry, life goes on...there's some green grasses growing out there on the pond, which tells me that there are some lower areas with moisture in them, and the grass is still growing around the pond (and we had to have our friend mow all the way out there and he didn't get stuck in the mud because there still isn't any mud).
I am thankful that the flower seeds I planted are all growing in spite of the fact that I just kind of dumped them all in there together. Hopefully that ring of sprouts will soon be full of flowers! Oh, we got those terra cotta stones at our local building supply place and put them around the little garden. It looks a lot better than it did before. However, that is on a slope and it was tricky getting them to stand up.
I am thankful that our little vegetable garden is still growing and producing "fruit"...Look at those tomatoes!!!! Praise God!!
Aren't they beautiful?
I am thankful that even though we have to pay for our water here since we are on a community water system and not our own well, we are able to water our little garden and keep it going in spite of the drought. However our water bill is a bit higher than normal, and we are also on a bit of a watering restriction, so I have to be careful...that's why I am really looking forward to this rain so I won't have to do so much watering.
The squash plants are looking good too...
That's a baby squash!! WooHoo! Growing your own food is so much fun!! Thank You, Lord!!! We are in this together!!!
Here's my sweet garden helper...well...I'd say he's more of a "supervisor" than helper, but he sure is sweet.
Did you say you wanted to see more pictures of Blackie? Okay then, I think I can manage that...
Here is where he managed to jump up onto this morning, and thankfully hubby alerted me to come get him before he could do any damage to anything on top of the buffet, but of course I saw it as a photo op and had to take a few pictures first, keeping a close watch on him (and that tail) to make sure he didn't knock anything off. After I took my pictures, I kindly removed him from the danger zone.
When I first got there (and before I could get my phone ready to take a picture) he was actually over there by the dolls and their tea set. I think he wanted to have a tea party with them, but then he noticed his reflection in the mirror and that was something new and interesting...
Then he noticed the little bird on the little church birdhouse, and was studying that when I decided it was best to get him down from there before he decided to eat a little stuffed bird. LOL.
My hubby wears these flip flops in the house and has some Dr. Scholl's insoles on them to make them feel better on his feet, but Blackie found those to be quite interesting and was enjoying playing with them.
I am thankful that we have fun with this kitty, and that he really isn't destructive, just curious.
He has been a joy and a blessing in disguise to us.
One day last week we took a walk at a little park in our community that is beside a little lake.
Hello!
I really wasn't going to go down that slide, but I can pretend...
Hubby was working hard at some chin ups...
(of course his feet were on solid ground, LOL)
Some people never grow up!
The lake was calm and smooth as glass. I didn't have my good camera with me, so the pictures were whatever I could get with my cell phone.
Well, looky there! A beautiful Great White Egret was flying across the lake:
You can see along the shore that the water level is quite low in this lake also, but at least it isn't dry.
That's because this is a real lake, and our pond is just a pond.
It's still beautiful, and I am thankful that there is water for the birds and fish here...
Here's some food for thought from God's Word about not giving up, but continuing to "run with endurance the race that is set before us" in this life. It may look different for each one of us, but when we keep our gaze on Christ, He will help us make it safely to the finish line...
Hebrews 12:1-2 NKJV
The Race of Faith
"1 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God."
I am thankful for that encouragement as I face my daily struggles and routines. My struggles are nothing compared to what Jesus had to endure for my sake. He ran interference for us, and is there waiting at the finish line to welcome us "home". That is truly good news to me. I hope it is for you as well.
Okay, friends. That's it for today. I just got a notice that a book I requested is ready for me at the library, so I can go pick it up and have something new to read in my "spare time".
Blessing to each and every one of you!!
Ahhh, Pam ... Don't ever grow up! I love the humor of the photos and you two are such a delightful couple.
ReplyDeleteI pray that the rains do come and fill your pond. Also that they water the bounty of your garden.
That Blackie is something else. He's like a kid and wants to play with the "boxes" not the toy...flip flops. Blackie is good for you as you are to him.
My post today is also about the AC and its importance in our lives. Great minds think the same.
(((hugs)))
Sue
What a fun post! I'm glad you have rain predicted. We will all cheer when there is water in Still Waters Pond again!
ReplyDeleteI always love seeing Blackie. He's a reminder that God has a plan, and He knew you would get such joy from him, before you ever did.
I love your playground shots. Glad you are having fun and I love that John is willing to go along with it. Bob puts up with my crazy ideas too, and I'm going to show him these pics of John so he knows he's not alone!
You two are so cute and your personalities are big...I love this!! The playground photos are adorable. So much to be thankful for even though the pond does look seriously sad. Praying you all get an abundance of rain SOON!! I've been reading about the El Nino and even though we may be warmer, I do hope the rain gives us plenty of relief and that it will head your way as well. I'm slow at posting and reading these days, but I promise I am still here and will get caught up soon!!
ReplyDeleteThose are such fun and playful pictures - had me smiling all the way through.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get some rain. I know about hot and dry. When our hot weather kicks in and the humidity drops it's fire season. It's very dry here, too. We were working in the yard and it was 93, which isn't that hot for here but the humidity so low, you don't break a sweat - its just hot but nothing like it will be in a month. Hotter and dryer. We have to come in because certain gardening methods could spark a fire. We might get some dry lightning storm next week. Don't like that at all. Just thunder and lightning and no rain.
We don't need rain. This is our normal Mediterranean climate when we go rain less for 7-8 months. We had a very good rainy season but it doesn't take but a couple of weeks without rain, till we're dry as dust.
That lake looks so peaceful. Great place to just sit and bird watch.
Love love love the Blackie pictures. I'm so happy you both are enjoying him and loving on him, and gave him your home. He pays you back with lots of blessings and laughs and having a pet lowers our blood pressure!
Your veggies look good. I'm glad your water bill isn't outrageous. Ours is double and a little more in the dry months because of the use of the automatic sprinklers.
Enjoyed this " fun and playful " post!
That little Blackie is king around there now. I honestly knew he would be:) You two are so cute out there playing around. Makes life a little cheerier.
ReplyDeleteWe have had more rain than y'all but yes, we still could use some too. The tomatoes look great. I think our water bill increased recently no matter what we used.
You and John had a great time on the playground!! I love those photos!! Blackie is a cat and loves to go where he shouldn't. They all do!! LOL I really enjoyed your post, Pam!! xo
ReplyDeleteTime to read? What's that? Too often, Pamela, that's how I feel, too. We got some much needed, and unexpected, rain here today. May the Lord bless you with many more deluges to fill up that pond of yours. I so enjoyed all your photos, too.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
We have the same weather forecast - hot and rainy. So far not a drop and we need it too. Your post was cute. I love those tomatoes. I pray it rains.
ReplyDeleteI hope you got some of the rain tonight that you hoped and prayed for. I'm praying too. Your garden is looking wonderful. And squash babies. There is nothing like fresh garden squash and tomatoes too. The playground looks like a lot of fun. So many things to play on. Have you noticed that the merry go rounds that were in the playground when we were small are all gone? They say they are dangerous and probably so, but we all survived. Ha!
ReplyDeleteI love those verses in Hebrews. We just keep running that race with perseverance and we will soon be rewarded.
Have a wonderful Friday my friend.
Blessings and hugs,
Betsy
The shortage of rain has put Marion County on a water restriction too...sigh...our pool needs water, but you know, we don't dare run the well for long. I don't ever remember having a drought so long. Keeping you in prayer, and thanks for the smiles with the thought of some never grow up. LOL
ReplyDeleteOur beautiful pond is looking more like a mudpuddle now, too! We will pray for a good amount of rain with you! We never got any last night even tho it looked like it might for a while! I enjoyed your fun photos!!!
ReplyDeleteNot even the weather app but we watch a weather channel and they are not right very often. It's a guess! I hope your Still Waters Pond comes back. So many cute pictures you showed. I like you two at the park. Your garden looks awesome and I always enjoy your photos of Blackie. Have a nice weekend.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful observations, Pam. It's interesting that your lawn mowing person did not have to worry about getting stuck in the mud by Still Waters Pond since there is no mud! Yeah. Well. More rain would be nice. And as you said, the "phone weather app to often times be less than accurate"... we have that problem here, too. The Ocala National Forest seems to grab more of the rain than we do.
ReplyDeleteYou left a comment on my blog about why you don't do jigsaw puzzles anymore. I definitely understand that!!! For the same reasons, I don't do cross stitch any more. I was delightfully addicted to it but it did my neck and shoulders no favors. Working these puzzles, I have to restrict my time leaning over them.
Loved the snapshots of you and John. You both are good people!
Oh, you kids are such fun! I love your 'ring of sprouts' thriving in that circle ... but can sure empathize about the bricks falling down. We've those same ones lining the front and side of our house, but they just won't stay put!
ReplyDeleteI hope and pray the rain you're experiencing stays a while longer. You can have ours!
Dear Pamela, your photos are beautiful and fun. Blackie is as adorable as ever.
