I took this picture below because my mother's grandmother's maiden name was Johnston. HERE is a link to a post that tells an interesting story about that discovery. So there were "Johnstons" in my ancestry, and who knows but that they made really good cookies! I know my mother was certainly a good cookie baker (and pies too), so perhaps she inherited that ability from her ancestors too!
Welcome to my "Open Window"...a place of hope, encouragement, and adventure as we journey down the road from "Closed Doors" to the new opportunities God places in our pathway. I hope you will take the time to go back and follow the trail of mixed blessings and fears, failures and triumphs from the past and side-trips in the present. Perhaps it will conjure up some of your own special memories, and be an invitation for you to share with others. I look forward to spending this time with you!

Wednesday Treasures and Blessings
Greetings Friends!
This was the scene this morning when I woke up! Another beautiful way to start the day!
1 Chronicles 16:23-27
23 Sing to the Lord, all the earth;
Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day.
24 Declare His glory among the nations,
His wonders among all peoples.
25 For the Lord is great and greatly to be praised;
He is also to be feared above all gods.
26 For all the gods of the peoples are idols,
But the Lord made the heavens.
27 Honor and majesty are before Him;
Strength and gladness are in His place.
Amen!
And we started out the morning with our little friend Blackie. Actually it was a little warmer last night, warm enough for him to stay outside, but he was quite ready to come inside this morning and have his breakfast and spend some time warming up before going back out for the day. One of his favorite places to explore is anywhere around "Daddy's Chair", especially under his feet. LOL.
I've noticed that if "Daddy" isn't in his chair when Blackie comes inside, that is the first place he runs to look for him, and then he heads for the bedroom to look for him. He knows already who's the soft touch for the treats. LOL. Yeah, Daddy was the one who kept saying we didn't need to have any stray neighborhood cats around...but when he doesn't know I'm listening I hear him talking "baby cat talk" to him. LOL. But he's still not ready to make him a full time indoor cat...and I'm not sure that Blackie ever will be, but he's sure working hard to become one. He's definitely made some changes in our routine!
I had mentioned that we had to travel to Gainesville yesterday for a Doctor's appointment for hubby. It was for a follow up check up for a condition that had been discovered via an MRI earlier in the year, and the doctor wanted to keep a watch on it to make sure there were no significant changes.
(These murals are on the wall of the waiting area in the hospital where we had to go for the appointment)
Thankfully, after a CT Scan and review by the doctor, it was determined that there was no change and he was happy to say that he didn't need to see him again for a year! So that was very good news and an answer to prayer!
So very happily we went out to lunch at the local Cracker Barrel...for which we had a gift card that was a Christmas present...so that made it even better!
I was happy to see that everything still looks the same in this Cracker Barrel. This was the first time we'd been since the near "disaster" of a marketing scheme that went sour real fast with their corporate headquarters last year.
We were relieved and happy to sit there and enjoy the country atmosphere and good food, including some fried apples.
(That's grilled catfish and hushpuppies, in case you didn't know. It was good!)
So that was our adventure yesterday, and we came home rejoicing in the good report, and very very thankful.
Philippians 4:4-7 NKJV
"4 Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!
5 Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.
6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication,
with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;
7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."
Amen!
And with that I will leave you for tonight. For those of you who may be facing a severe winter storm warning this weekend, my thoughts and prayers are with you. You may want to remember those verses above as you face an uncertain situation. May the Lord be with you and give you comfort and peace. Amen.

I'm so glad the appt went so well, an answer to prayer for sure!
ReplyDeleteI love how Blackie goes to John. Bob always said no cats. Then we got a cat and before we knew it, we ended up with an inside cat. And guess who the cat always sat by? Bob! And guess who loved that and talked to the cat all the time? Yes, that would be Bob. So your story tickled me. :)
Thanks for the verse. We're in the winter storm warning again.
Yep, cats have their ways! Smart kitty, knows who he had to charm. I think it's funny and it pleases me how all three,of you are enjoying each other. Such a blessing. 😻
ReplyDeleteHowdy Pam, it's me, debbi, not anonymous, ha ha LOL. debbis front porch. SOOOO glad to hear that doctor visit was a good one and that he can not be checked again for a whole year!....that is great news! Love that y'all got to eat out. We havent been back to the Cracker Barrel since that disaster of marketing either, ha ha LOL. so not sure if ours is the same or if they ruined it like the had planned to. They didn't seem to understand that that is WHY PEOPLE GO THERE.....because it's Cracker Barrel.....with all the old timey stuff and memories. I always loved looking at all the neat old treasures on the walls and recognizing so much of it from the old days. Glad your visit was still super nice and that your food was delicious. It feels SO COLD TO ME here, but it's nothing like what they are already getting up North. I am so ready for spring and the LONG SUMMER days, how bout you? Love seeing how Blackie is sure taking up with John, looks like he's ready to jump right on up into his lap!.....has he yet? Hugs
ReplyDeleteAw, I love hearing how Blaikie is sweetening up your husband, lol. I also love that your husband has begun talking cat baby talk. So sweet. I'm also happy to hear the good report from the doctor. I've heard a lot about Cracker Barrel but we don't have any where I live. I do like the look of the catfish.
ReplyDeleteI am glad the MRI was no change, been keeping you all in prayer. Blackie sure makes me smile. Wishing you a lovely day.
ReplyDeleteI think the older a 'stray' cat becomes, the more he is ready to become more docile inside. I'm glad you are accommodating! I can see how you were attracted to the murals--just beautiful. Praising God with you on the good results of your husband's CT scan!
ReplyDeleteso happy for the good results and another year before a checkup. You know I love hearing about the non house cat that has moved in on you and the non cat person you live with. ha ha ha... animals do have a way with people... I am happy to hear cracker barrel is still alive, have not been in about 5 years.. I miss it. I like the way it looks and love the food. hope ours is still here, we have 3, 2 by the interstate and 1 that is about 1 mile from our house...
ReplyDeleteIf I'm at Cracker Barrel I'm having the fried apples . . . yummy! There is a Cracker Barrel in Baytown, which is just over the bridge, we go as often as we can. So happy to hear all is well with John, God's blessing for sure. As for Blackie, yep, he's working his way into your heart and home. He seems to be a good fellow. BTW, I'm glad Cracker Barrel didn't change.
ReplyDeletePam, glad that you enjoyed the snow photos on my blog and thank you for the well wishes as we are forecasted to get a mot more over the weekend, but then predictions have been known to be wrong. Our weather event will be all snow and thankfully not the ice storm that may affect many other states. Good that Blackie is doing well and seems to be enjoying his indoor time as well.
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy that John got some great news from the doctor, Pamela!!! We used to love going to Cracker Barrel, but ours has changed so much, taking away some favorite menu items, that it just isn't worth it. Your meal looked good, though. Thank you for any prayers you can send our way as things are looking dicey weather-wise for us. Great scripture to remember as we face some uncertainties over the weekend. Blessings and tell Blackie I said "hi"!
ReplyDeleteYou are very much on my heart and mind this weekend, as I know you are right where the ice storm may be hitting. We will be praying for you and all of our more northern friends this weekend for sure. God is with you, and I know He will take good care of you. But still, I hope you are well prepared! (((HUGS)))
DeleteSo happy to know that John's appointment went well and he doesn't have to return for a year. Love that Blackie has adopted John as his cat-daddy too.
ReplyDeleteWe haven't been back to Cracker Barrel for a very long time. It seems we out here in the West don't know how to cook Southern style. Everything has been blah and the dumplings gummy. So I don't know if they changed the decor or not. It makes me curious to try it 1 more time. Its only a couple of miles from our home.
To be continued ...
Sue
Beautiful photo in the header. Be careful of the storm this weekend. Glad John's appointment went well.
ReplyDeleteThank you! We are far enough south that we will be having 70's and even low 80's this weekend. We will be praying for all of our friends to the north of us, however. Please stay safe and warm.
DeleteHi Pam. That is wonderful news that your husband's condition isn't getting worse. Praise God! I haven't been around to visit blogs as much as I would like to lately, but I am always happy to check in and see how you are doing there in Florida.
ReplyDelete~ Deb Jones https://dayinthelife2013.blogspot.com/
Praise God for that unremarkable CT scan! (I always hold my breath when waiting for test results.) You lunch looks so yummy. We've not been to CB in ages -- not because of the atmosphere or the food, but the horrible (non)service.
ReplyDeleteYum! We love those fried apples at Cracker Barrel too. We have two near us and both have the original decor which we really enjoy.
ReplyDeleteBlackie has the two of you right where he wants you. I think he will soon charm your dear Hubby into letting him be a full-time house kitty. (Although Blackie may never really want that.) It tickled me when you said that he talks "baby cat talk" to him. :-)
That is such wonderful news from the doctor appointment. I have two appointments coming up during the first part of February. One to check up on tests from a year ago to see if there is any change and the second is the surgery to remove the mass they found a few weeks ago.
Those paintings are so beautiful. I love the deep blue colors. Very relaxing.
Blessing and hugs,
Betsy
Oh, Betsy, I will be praying for you as you have that surgery. Please keep us posted about that. I know God is with you, and He's already there preparing the way. I hope you all will stay safe and warm this weekend with all the bad winter weather coming your way. We are praying.
DeleteI'm intrigued to know what hush puppies are as I only know them as shoes, soft shoes admittedly but I doubt that they're edible :) It looks like Blackie will be an indoor cat before too long, or maybe just for the winter. So pleased the health reports were good :)
ReplyDeleteHooray and Praise God for that good report!! xo
