Tuesday 4~October Reading and more

 October Reading

Welcome to Tuesday 4 in memory of our friend Toni Taddeo..
Most people love to read. It opens other world's to us. Autumn weather is often conducive to reading as weather can be chillier and rainy. Cozying up with a book can be a lovely way to spend some time.

1.  How do you relax in the evening after dinner?
I do love to sit in my recliner and read a good book.  If I don't have a good book to read, I spend more time at my computer, reading and writing here in blogland.  Sometimes, if hubby isn't watching football or other sports on TV, we will watch some programs together on TV that are mutually entertaining.  Lately we've been on a binge watch of the old "What's My Line" game show from the 50's - 60's.  We have found that very interesting since we both grew up in that era and many of the Mystery Guest contestants are entertainers from that time period that we remember.  It's also fun to see the different  kinds of occupations many of the regular contestants had, and especially funny when the "Star Panel" can't figue out what these people do.  I also enjoy seeing the clothes and hairstyles from that time period.  The show was on TV for over 16 years, so there are a lot of episodes to watch on YouTube. It's been fun for a change.  However, that partially explains why I haven't been as active here in Blogland lately! LOL
Here's a link to the What's My Line YouTube programs

2.  Do you read in bed? What kind of books do you read?
No, I do not read in bed. That would be too uncomfortable for me, plus I believe bed is for sleeping, and so do my eyes. When my head hits my pillow it causes my eyes to go shut quite rapidly. I have to hurry up and say my prayers before I start drifting away into dreamland. Now, I must admit that I often wake back up during the night and cannot get back to sleep, but reading is still not an option for me since my hubby is sleeping away peacefully next to me.

3.  Do you have a list of books you look forward to reading?
Not really a list. Here's what I'm currently reading:
So far so good!
And I just finished this one:
It was also very good. These are both a departure from my usual reading genre. I normally stay in the Christian non-fiction type books, but someone else (one of our blogging friends) had shared these books on her blog post, and I thought I would give them a try. I was not disappointed.  They both have some mystery and adventure involved, and for the most part are clean and without any foul language, so that's a plus!  I just don't like books that I end up being embarrassed when I read them, and these have passed the test. LOL.

4.  What is the best book you've ever read and why? Or.. how about the worst book you feel you wasted time reading?
Well, of course the Bible is the BEST book ever written and read, and I keep reading it over and over every day, so that definitely is at the top of my list.  But besides that, I honestly can't think of any one book off the top of my head for either category.  I enjoyed the Mitford series by Jan Karon, and I understand her newest book is now available, so I am looking forward to reading it. I will probably wait until it shows up at the library since I do not  purchase books anymore, unless I know the author personally, or unless I get it at a reduced price at a yard sale or something like that. Although, if I have enough credits on my Amazon account, I may just order it and apply those credits toward the price. That's one way I do buy books.

Okay, that's all for this week's Tuesday 4. You can Click HERE to join in the fun.

This morning we had to get up early and drive an hour + up the road for my hubby's Cornea Eye specialist appointment.  Thankfully he got good news from the doctor, and he doesn't need to go back for another 6 months! So that was a real blessing!!  Here's some pictures I took this morning as we watched the sun rising above the clouds:

And here it is on the St. John's River as we crossed over the "Black Creek":

And this was the moon last night:   So much of God's beauty in our skies!
And here's a good thought for today:
Now I must go, as our kids are finally home from their trip to Minnesota, and they are coming over for a spaghetti supper in a few minutes. We can't wait to see them!!  So tally ho, and away I go!!

  1. Spaghetti dinner and a visit with loved ones sounds like a great evening! Wonderful praise report too on your DH's corneal issues. The two books that you read recently are going on my list of books to read. I do keep one and it's very long. But like you I now get my books at the library and they don't always have the books I want but there is always another book to take its place, lol. Your sky shots are beautiful. Wishing you a fabulous rest of your week.

  2. I know it will be a lovely supper and great time of catching up with your kids. The two books sound good and will have to go on my book list.
    Beautiful sky photos!

  4. I agree that the Bible is the best.
Do you have the Great American Family channel? They are getting ready to start their Christmas movies and I watched a tv show over the weekend called Crossroad Springs. It was good. Much like Heartland if you watch that. Loved your answers! Have a nice week.

  6. Oh, what a relief to get that thumb's up from John's corneal specialist! I'm not familiar with either of these books you're currently reading, but the cover of Martha's Vinyard Beach and Book Club is enormously appealing (maybe the 'vintage' swimwear?). Thanks for the mention of "What's My Line" ... I used to love the clothing Arlene and Kitty wore ... their poise. I'm going to strongly suggest we watch!

  7. Wonderful news on the good report for your husband’s eyes. 👀

I don’t have time to endulge in reading regular books except for the books that we are read as part of our Tikfah ministry. They’re very interesting and I continue to learn more.

Before I married my husband I got used to
reading in bed all the time. Not anymore. No television in our bedroom either.

    1. Oh I meant to add, we watch those old games shows from the 50’s, What’s my Line and To tell the truth on Amazon. We enjoy them.

  8. I may have to join in this one day. I am up to my eyeballs with tomatoes and apples, so I'm limited to computer time. I just finished a book last night (odd occurrence right now).

  9. I'm a reader and always have at least one book I'm reading (besides the Bible).
Currently I am reading a non-fiction book and have a children's book (Humphrey series) in my queue.
I am sure you enjoyed your spaghetti dinner last night.

  10. How nice to able to greet the travelers! Good new for John's cornea! While getting up early and heading to the 'big city' isn't my favorite morning activity, it is wonderful to see the clouds look like that!

  11. I used to be an avid reader and loved Jan Karon's series and Bodie Thoene's many series. Really like historical fiction. I tend to spend too much time on the computer and tv but I guess my age is catching up with me. I have a pile of books just waiting to be read...I must get to them!!!
So glad your Hubby's eye appointment had a good report, and I know your dinner with family was a great time of catching up.
    (((hugs)))

  12. I almost did this get-together this week and then forgot! I enjoy reading anywhere but most of my reading is in bed, before I go to sleep. Jan Karon's new book arrived yesterday so you can guess what I'm reading right now!

  13. "... and if possible, speak a few sensible words." That made me smile, and it is a worthy goal.

  14. so glad the kids are home, yum on the supper, we love spaghetti. I read my kindle in bed because its the only thing that shuts the hamster running in my brain. I only read fiction, never read a non fiction book, except the Bible and the Axiety book I read now.
reading calms me down and allows me to sleep. that was before our lives turned upside down. now I am so exhausted I fall asleep as soon as I lay down and sleep when bob sleeps. the kindle has night mode and makes no light to bother the other person.
I have loved stories, since I could hold a book and I love movies, we watch a movie every night but have run out of ones to watch because they are no worth watching.
bob love documentaries, or did and all sports, I read while he does that..

  17. I agree that Autumn is a good time for reading. I want to start reading more, but I'm so restless I'm having a hard time staying put.

  18. Pam: Any time is a good time for reading. When my eyes are healed and I get my new reading glasses, I will be reading more than I have lately. Please pray for us. Be blessed.

  19. You are right, the Bible is the best book ever written. I read it every night in a edition called Read the Bible in a Year. I've done that 6 times. Good to hear about your hubby's eye appointment results. Sean Dietrich is a humorous writer whose one page essays show he loves people and God.

  20. Happy to know your husband had a good report regarding his eyes! I meant to comment previously, love Jan Karon. Must get that new book. I was sad to hear of the passing of John Lodge from the Moddy Blues. John & his wife were devote Christians in the 60's when other members were experimenting with drugs and other things. Sad for his earthly passing but happy he is with our Lord. Love all the journaling and bible studies. A childhood friend was telling me she was reading in the book of Daniel and so was I! haha we've known each other most of our entire lives. My husband always answers questions when I am stuck on something and Chapter 8 of Daniel has some questions I need answered. We will have some time this weekend to study it together. I will be back again when I blog more. I love visiting you here. LOVE & HUGS
