Time for the Calendar Roll Call! John Sloane's Country Seasons is up first above and below:
Don't you just love those wild turkeys in the corn field? I think that's a corn field, with the corn shucks all stacked up like that. It doesn't look like hay, so I'm thinking corn. Anyone who is more agrarian than I am may know better...But I love the picture either way! Those turkeys just don't know how popular they will be this month! Gobble Gobble Gobble! Fly away quick!!
Next in line is the Thomas Kincade calendar for November...I love this painting...do you see the deer in the field next to the stream? Reminds me of where we just came from last week in the mountains, although our mountains weren't quite that rocky or steep, but it sure was beautiful!
And yes, I love this verse...no matter what we do or say, do it in the name of the Lord Jesus, and give Him thanks and praise...and leave the outcome to Him.
That's how I felt last night as I handed out our Halloween treats with the little Scripture "prayer cards" inside the bag. I committed them to the Lord and prayed that whoever received them would be blessed and drawn closer to the Lord by seeing His Word.
Each baggie had a prayer card and at least 5 pieces of a variety of candies. I know I passed out about 60 of them! The children may not have understood them, but I hope the parents will read the verse to the child and think about what it says. We can certainly pray that way. The rest is left up to God.
Aren't they adorable?
These two children were the first two of our trick or treaters! Aren't they sweet? We had many more, and a lot of older kids this year, like middle school age. Lots of parents too.
One sweet little girl of about 3-4 years old just came up close to me and looked into my face and then she reached out and hugged me! I was so overcome by that. I pray she saw Jesus in my face. That is what I was hoping for.
We didn't go all out with decorations...just this funny scarecrow and the wooden pumpkin and ghost...
And Mr. Jack O Lantern was smiling at everyone:
Oh, and Lily Grace, with her dog Bailey the Wonder Dog, was dressed up as a Hippie Rock Star...
And they had a really good time entertaining the kiddos...
As it got darker, the outdoor lights came on and the house and yard were aglow with a welcoming light.
One teenage boy, as he was actually thanking me for the candy, said, "Oh, your house looks awesome!"
I was flabbergasted! I know many people do much more elaborate displays and spooky themes, and ours was just simple stuff. But he turned back around as he was walking away to thank me and tell me that! Reminds me of the story of the Ten Lepers whom Jesus healed, and as they went away only one returned to thank Jesus...(Luke 17:11-19). Now, I'm not saying that no one else thanked me during the evening, because actually many did. Especially the little children...they turned back and waved and said "thank you", and one little one said "Be safe!" Apparently she had heard that spoken to her several times and thought it was something important to tell me! I loved it. Reminds me again of another Bible Story, found in Matthew 19:13-15, where Jesus blesses little children:
"13 Then little children were brought to Him that He might put His hands on them and pray, but the disciples rebuked them. 14 But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” 15 And He laid His hands on them and departed from there."
Please don't misunderstand me, because I am not trying to equate Halloween Trick or Treating with Jesus blessing the little children, except that again, we are Christ's ambassadors to the world. We are the Light of Christ here on earth. If our intention is to bless the children and show them love, and we are committing our works to the glory of God, then yes, we are to be as "Christ" to them...and let God take care of the rest of it. We are planting seeds of Christ's love by faith. I am still praying for them today.
I guess I kind of got side-tracked there. Moving right along and back to the calendars for November:
This one certainly reminds me of where we just were on our vacation in the mountains of North Georgia! So beautiful!!
Happy Teapot Calendar! I love this photo with the fire in the fireplace, delicious cookies ready to be eaten, an open book, fresh flowers, and a very lovely teapot and cup of tea...what a cozy and comforting setting...I could certainly appreciate that, couldn't you?
Apparently the teapot is made by Royal Doulton, and this tells more about it:
Here's a quote from Jane Austin, for all you Jane Austin Fans:
Now, this Susan Branch calendar comes up with some "interesting" pictures, to say the least. LOL. This is so funny...but I'm not sure if I am going to like looking at that poor naked turkey body for the whole month of November! LOL. It makes me think of what my mother said once, that she hated to handle a whole plucked turkey or chicken because they reminded her too much of a baby! So...now I can't unsee that and may have to cover up this picture. LOL.
I do like this quote below, however, and I think it actually comes from a Christmas song, "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas...", but I can see where it also applies to Thanksgiving...where we have "faithful friends who are dear to us, gather near to us, once more..."
November is a big month: We turn our clocks back this weekend, We must VOTE on Tuesday if you haven't already (we have!), There's Veteran's Day on the 11th, which also happens to be Benton and Rose's anniversary! Then there's Thanksgiving on the 28th! Really late this year! I may have to start my Christmas shopping before Thanksgiving this year! LOL.
Speaking of Thanksgiving, do you already know where you will spend it? Are you hosting or traveling elsewhere? We really haven't made any definite plans yet. I'm waiting to hear what all the rest of the family is doing...whether they want to come here or have us go there, but we really aren't crazy about traveling on Thanksgiving (or Christmas either), so we shall see what develops. The main thing is, wherever we go, we need to make sure that it is a day of Thanks-giving. Not just a lot of turkey and dressing and good food and pies, but a day to celebrate the blessings that God has given us, and to share that joy and blessing with others, whether it be family or friends, or maybe even strangers that you don't know that well yet...Share the love, share the hope, share the joy, and give thanks to God with a grateful heart!

So from our house to yours,
Have a blessed and beautiful November and Thanksgiving season!
Good Night!
Your house did look wonderful last night. What a sweet thing for a young one to notice! Sometimes kids get a bad rap. They are often wise and very courteous. I love your idea of the prayer cards.
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to November and Thanksgiving.
Your home does indeed look awesome!! You had such a good time passing out candy and prayers! I am sure the prayer cards helped someone out there! Great idea! Happy November!! The year is flying by.
ReplyDeleteHappy November! Your treat bags were so nice and I'm glad you got to hand so many out. Your never know who they will touch.
ReplyDeleteSo nice to have kids thank and appreciate it. Your house really does look nice all lit up and inviting!
I love your treat bag idea and your look on Halloween. I always looked at it as a way to kindness too. You have use any opportunity to share Gods goodness and love.
ReplyDeleteOh and yes I like Thomas Kincade paintings too.

Hi Pamela, I sure enjoyed my visit here tonight! I always enjoy your calendar pictures. I am glad you had a good Trick N Treat. We are the light. We have passed out candy at so many of our church Trunk N Treats. We took a break this year. I am hoping I don't have to have surgery. I will call up next week to get into PT. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteYour house IS beautiful and awesome! What a sweet boy to say so. And that little girl. I think I probably would have cried tears of happiness. I immediately thought, "That was a direct hug from the Lord."
ReplyDeleteI love everything about your post, especially all of the scripture verses. Your calendars are always such fun to see.
Our Thanksgiving is planned to be at Mandy's house with me cooking most of the meal. My sister will bring a pie, niece will bring rolls and Mandy will make sweet potatoes. I do the rest and we transport it to their house. Our son and his sweet family from London are supposed to be here on the Monday before and stay almost a week! We're very excited about that. I must admit, the world news has me very concerned about their travels but I have determined to put it into God's hands and He will care for them.
Blessings and hugs,
Betsy
More calendars to view is good. I like the Thomas Kincade and tea calendars. I like his drawings and I got his drawings on our checks that I buy online. I went through a magazine yesterday that has tea cups and pots that match upcoming holidays. Recipes as well. I'm glad you shared scripture verses with the Halloween ð ðĪŠ candy. Good story of children there to get more candy. We may have two more people come for Thanksgiving. I thought about turkey but not sure. Have a good weekend!! ~Becky ð ðĨŪ ð ð
ReplyDeleteNovember is certainly a busy month for most people. In all the busyness, sometimes we forget to truly give thanks.
ReplyDeleteThanksgiving is usually at our house because we can accommodate more people. We will have seven family members and at least two 'extra family' celebrating with us.
I love our autumn, spring, summer and even winter walks here. When we lived in SoCal, we didn't have many areas where there was trees covering our paths, so I didn't walk much before sunset (too hot and I sunburn easily).
I love how you've illustrated my favorite month with sweet photographs and verses, too. What blessings, those little children ... and that unexpected compliment from the young man. Wow.
ReplyDeleteUnlike my parents who used to travel over the long Thanksgiving weekend, we're content to stay home with our loved ones. I want to do a brisket (v. turkey or ham), but oh my word, they're expensive! Vienna Sausages, anyone? LOL!
Those children are adorable in their costumes, Pamela. Sounds like you all enjoyed a safe and happy Halloween. Of course, I always love seeing your calendars, too, as I've mentioned here before. May you all enjoy a blessed Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteWhat a heartwarming experience you had with your trick-or-treaters! Your reflections on kindness and the impact of small gestures resonate beautifully. It’s lovely to hear about the sweet interactions, especially the little girl who hugged you—what a precious moment! Your simple decorations, like the scarecrow and Jack O’Lantern, created a warm, welcoming atmosphere, proving that it’s the thought and spirit behind the celebration that truly matter.
ReplyDeleteThe teenage boy’s compliment shows that even simple efforts can make a big impression, and it’s wonderful that many children expressed their gratitude. Your connection of these experiences to Biblical stories emphasizes the importance of being a light to others, especially to children. It’s inspiring how you view these interactions as opportunities to plant seeds of love and kindness. Thank you for sharing such a meaningful perspective!
I just shared a new post; you are invited to read. Happy weekend!
The calendars are all so pretty. I need to order my calendar for next year. I can't believe how quickly this year is passing by. I love what you handed out for Halloween. Yes, the kids look adorable. I believe we are going over to Adam and Gabby's for Thanksgiving. Take care and God Bless.
ReplyDeletePam: Let's see! We have property taxes due around the tenth. Our anniversary is the ninth. Veterans on the 11th. on the 26th our church will host a Community Wide Thanksgiving dinner for anyone who wants to come. On Thanksgiving, Jim and I will be by ourselves. On Saturday, the 30th, Roger will be with us. Peace and blessings to you and yours.
ReplyDeleteIt's still so warm here, as y'all know. Sure doesn't feel like November at all.
ReplyDeleteLooks like another busy month for us. I'm going to order more propane this week because there are *3* more possible hurricanes milling about in the Gulf. *sigh* What a year!
Blessings.
The last photo is the best one. So warm and inviting. I miss October already but, November is good as well and things will be just dandy.
ReplyDeleteYour home is so cozy and inviting Pamela. I love seeing the pond and your sunsets and sunrises too. They really draw one into praise and prayer.
ReplyDeleteYour calendars have such beautiful pictures. I enjoy the firsts of the month entries.
November is definitely a month of Thankfulness.
Sue
What a beautiful post! I learned this year that many people sit in chairs in their front yards and hand out candy from there. Kids don't necessarily knock on doors anymore. Makes sense with the way the world is nowadays. And I've heard of a lot of people handing out treat bags instead of just candy. Things sure have changed since my girls were little. Thank you for sharing your day!
ReplyDeleteThe reason I sit in a chair to hand out candy is because we have about 5-6 steps up onto our porch to get to the front door. I don't want children tripping over their costumes with masks on to climb up and down those steps, especially when it gets dark. It's just easier for me to sit down on the yard and pass out the candy from there, rather than having to jump up and down every time someone knocks on the door! So it's really a win win for both of us.
