So now it is time to post pictures...and I'm scratching my head and wondering what to post...
I have been watching this plant that is growing beside the road for the past few weeks, wondering what kind of flower it was (and also what that green leaf-eater bug is)
And I also noticed the fragrance was sweet and delicate...from such a pretty little flower...
Don't you agree? Do you know what this is?
I looked it up online and decided that it must be a type of common milkweed (Click this link for more information: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asclepias_syriaca )
So now I am watching it every day to make sure it doesn't get destroyed alongside the road ...and I am hoping to get some of its seeds when they develop so I can plant them in my garden at home and hopefully attract some Monarch Butterflies!! (But I still don't know what that green leaf-eating bug is. If you can identify it for me I would appreciate it!)
This isn't a Monarch, but a lovely Giant Swallowtail https://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/species/Papilio-cresphontes, who flew along beside us from bush to bush while we walked....
We also saw this beautiful little Gulf Fritillary Butterfly enjoying some wildflowers...
In other news this week...first let me apologize to my Facebook friends, as you have probably already seen all of these pictures...
I graduated from a flip phone to an i-phone.
The i-phone is a reconditioned one, an Apple 5S model, which apparently is already obsolete, but it's still way smarter than me! It has taken me a couple of days to finally figure out how to make a phone call. Of course, the problem here is that we live way out in the boonies where there is no signal...and we have to drive over five miles just to get enough signal to make a phone call. But the main reason for needing a cell phone is because we do have to drive so far to get anywhere, (over 20 miles through the forest to the nearest Walmart!) and it is primarily a safety and security measure in case of emergency. I just feel so dumb trying to figure this thing out...especially when I see young kids who have mastered them in no time at all! But you know what they say about us "old folks" need to keep learning new skills to challenge our brains so we don't get senile... (it may be too late for me...LOL)
Now, on a final note...These next two pictures you may not understand...But in the first picture you see the corner of my kitchen where our coffee pot, tea pot, toaster oven, etc. are. Above are the cabinets for our dishes and tea/coffee mugs. The under cabinet fluorescent light that was under the cabinet by the coffee pot died this week, leaving that corner very dark and dreary.
It took a couple of tries, but we finally found an LED light fixture to fit under that cabinet, which is much brighter than the former light we had there. In the process, we also ended up with another smaller fluorescent light that fit under the other cabinet where you see the mixer...so now the whole corner is lit up!
Ever since we lit this little corner up so brightly I've been singing this song when I turn on the lights in the morning:
Brighten The Corner Where You Are
Click HERE for the history of how this song was written and how it became so popular - I found this little history lesson very interesting!
So, my final words to you today are this...you may think that you don't have much to offer...your life may be quiet and not too exciting, and you may feel like no one would be interested in anything you may have to say or write...but this little song above speaks to me...and I hope to you as well...wherever you are, whatever you do, just be yourself...and "Brighten the Corner Where You Are"! Let the light of Jesus shine through you in all you say and do...offer a smile when others are frowning...a word of hope when others seem to have none...be cheerful when all seems dark and dreary...
Brighten the corner where you are!
Someone far from harbor you may guide across the bar;
Brighten the corner where you are!"
I so enjoyed your post this morning. Love the flowers and butterflies. I remember that song and it is so true. Just imagine, if each of us brightened our little corner, how bright this world would be. Thank you for this reminder.
ReplyDeleteIsn't that the truth? Now I hope everyone who reads this will be humming this little song and brightening their own little corner of the world! Thank you for stopping by today! May your day be filled with joy and peace!!
DeleteLove what that did for the cabinets! A little bit of light makes all the difference.
ReplyDelete"Brighten the Corner Where You Are"! Let the light of Jesus shine through you in all you say and do...offer a smile when others are frowning...a word of hope when others seem to have none..."
This is hopeful and encouraging! Thank you.
Thank you, Sandi! yes, isn't it amazing what just a little bit of light can do? If we each "let our lights shine" and "brighten the corner where we are"...just think how bright and happy this old dark world could be!! Have a blessed day my friend.
DeleteI have looked at those LED lights before and wondered about them. Now I know. I may have to check into them again. All your photos are lovely and that plant is interesting, but I haven't seen any around here. Thanks so much for the last words of encouragement and that old song. We have been more "confined" in our little place these days and sometimes I wonder whether I should be out doing more or be content to stay here and be at peace knowing God has me here caring for DH in our little corner of the world.
ReplyDeleteI love watching the butterflies.
Nonnie, I will say that the LED lights are brighter than the fluorescent...a much whiter light. I'm getting used to it, but if you prefer a softer light stick with the fluorescent. They just didn't have the longer fixture for under the cabinet in the fluorescent where I was shopping. As far as "doing more"...you do plenty...you are such a bright spot in your husband's life...and especially in the your grandchildren's lives. I know God is using you there as well as with your friends in your Bible studies, etc. AND, you brighten our lives here with your posts and friendship! That is always an encouragement! I always love to hear from you! You are a blessing to me!! so there!! :)
DeletePam: I loved the pictures of the flower. Your cabinet lights are wonderful. You have given me an idea for the cabinets in my kitchen Don't know if I can follow through with the thought right away but it would greatly improve my kitchen Thank you for sharing those photos.
ReplyDeleteI really love having light under the cabinets. I don't like a dark kitchen. My hubby tends to go around turning off lights behind me all the time, but I just go turn them back on. We are opposites in that regard. I am glad you enjoyed the flower pictures too. I guess I get a little carried away...but I found it fascinating to watch it as it developed!! Happy Labor Day weekend. I pray all goes well for you next week!
DeleteLovely flowers like little bells.
ReplyDeleteI just recently put new lights under my cabinets as well using velcro to stick them up. The cabinets are natural cherry wood and too hard to screw into for me. I hope they stay up! One just won't.
You need to get a kid over to help you learn your phone. My granddaughter taught me ;).
I will certainly try to brighten my corner. :)
Happy September!
Yes, they are like little bells. So sweet. I do hope you can get your lights to stay up. I never thought of velcro. The screws were difficult to get in because of the angle of getting under the cabinets...so I know that would be hard for you to do. You may need some "duct tape" to help! (I know, that's ugly...but it works!) Yes, I need a "grandchild" to help me, but mine lives in Maine. Maybe I can borrow someone else's child here. You do brighten your corner with your paintings and pictures and poems and encouraging words. Thank you for being YOU. You are a blessing to me!
DeleteYou always brighten my corner!! I don't know what that plant may be but I love the delicate blooms. I sure hope you can harvest some of it's seed for your garden. May God bless you today with happiness!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mary. It is so wonderful to hear from you and know that you are doing okay out there in Texas. You make me smile whenever I see your smiling face...so you brighten my corner just as well!! The plant is a type of milkweed...and I do hope to get the seeds. I love that pretty little flower!! Have a blessed and peaceful, and hopefully dry Labor Day weekend. Praying for your granddaughter to "labor" soon!!!
DeleteBeautiful song! Great words to remember. I am so glad to see you have so many butterflies. The milkweed should spread on it's own and give a larger amount each year.
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting, Trudy. Yes, it seems the butterflies are out in force at this time of year. I do hope to get some of those seeds for my yard. That particular plant is down the road a way from our house, so I will have to gather the seeds and carry them to my yard. I'll be watching them every day! Have a blessed and glorious Labor Day weekend!
DeleteLove the flowers no matter what the name is. The butterfly looks like maybe a swallowtail? Beautiful
ReplyDeleteThank you Carol. I love it too. Yes, the big butterfly was a swallowtail. They seem to be everywhere right now. Love to watch them flying about. They seem so free and happy! Have a blessed labor day weekend. Thank you for visiting!
DeleteI do not have a 'green thumb', so no clue what the plant is, but I do know pretty when I see it! And I also enjoy butterflies. Glad you got your corners light again and it looks nice.
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy the Labor Day weekend.
Ha Ha Linda...My thumb is quite brown too...no green there...my sister got all that in the family. But I do love flowers and plants as long as they pretty well take care of themselves! Thank you for stopping by. I hope your weekend is peaceful and blessed and no more storms!!
DeleteThis is a lovely bright post and that song is one I've never heard before. It is very catchy though and easy to learn :)
ReplyDeleteDiana
Hi Diana...I guess that song was more popular here in the states back in the olden days. But I still love it...and the message it brings! Thank you for stopping by! I pray your day is filled with joy...and that your little mum continues to improve every day! Blessings...
DeleteWhat a beautiful post. I haven't seen milkweed in many years... Used to see it in the fields where I grew up. Glad you got light in that little corner of your kitchen! Thanks for being so faithful to visit and comment and link up to FFF. I'm so sorry to be late in visiting. Life gets away from me! Happy Labor Day weekend! 💜
ReplyDeleteThank you, Debbie. I've never seen this kind of milkweed. The only one I've seen is orange in color...so this is a "rare" treat! Never apologize for living "life"! That's what we need to be doing! When we live "life" we have more to share! So thankful for this opportunity to visit back and forth here...it is such a blessing to me.
DeleteYou've certainly brightened the corner where I live with this post, Pamela. What gorgeous photos you got! You know, I know we're friends on Facebook, but since your posts rarely pop up on my feed, I'm so glad to know we can always connect through your blog.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Hmmm, I guess we need to check on each other on Facebook more often so it will pop up in our feed more frequently. Not sure how that works. Anyway, I know where to find you and am always blessed when we connect. How's the prayerful contemplation coming along concerning your next writing project? I'm still praying for God to shine His light on you and give you the answers and plan HE has designed!!! So exciting!! Have a blessed weekend!!
DeletePam, Sorry to be so late reading, commenting and sharing...I know you understand. As always, your photos are amazing. Sometimes weeds can be beautiful, even the ones that aren't have a use in God's creation.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
